Zen Center North Shore
Rev. Myozen Joan Amaral (she/ella) is a dharma lineage holder in the Soto Zen tradition as passed down through Shunryu Suzuki Roshi and San Francisco Zen Center. Since establishing the Zen Center in 2012, she has been exploring the connection between zazen, social justice, self-care, and creativity as a path of true happiness and mutual awakening.
The Zen Center was established in 2012 to make the teachings and practice of zazen freely accessible to a diverse population across the North Shore of Boston and regionally throughout New England. After two years in residence at St Andrew's Episcopal Church in Marblehead, we secured a dedicated space for practice in Beverly where we continued to offer ongoing opportunities for the study and practice of Soto Zen Buddhism. For the length of the pandemic, we moved our entire practice schedule to the Zoom platform and then began the transition back into physical space through a variety of partnerships with local entities. In October of 2026, we purchased a sangha home in Amesbury, MA where we are now able to support and maintain our practice and training schedule which includes monthly all day retreats and 3- and 7-day sesshin four times a year.
