Flair in the Square

6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Intro to Shibori - a Japanese style of resist fabric dyeing.

During this weeks Flair on the Square, we will be working with pre-reduced indigo dye to create shibori inspired tea towels! Participants will learn a little about the history of shibori dying, before learning several different basic folds and designs. Participants will be shown how to dye their tea towels, learning tips and tricks specific to dying with indigo.

There will be soda ash used in this process, it along with the indigo bath can cause skin irritation. We will have disposable gloves available for use, however if you are concerned we suggest bringing a pair of long sleeved kitchen/cleaning gloves to class.

Thursday’s evening art class will be messy! Please dress accordingly.

These stand-alone classes were developed in partnership with the Amesbury Cultural Council. They've been set-up to take place outdoors, with limited seating, so that each student can have an enjoyable experience. Participation is limited to 15, all supplies will be provided.

These classes are open to adults and children alike, as long as children are capable of self-monitoring. Please pre-register (the fee for participating is $10.00, paid in advance). No experience required.
